If you had asked me even just a year and a half ag

If you had asked me even just a year and a half ago what I did for work I could have given you a very clearly defined answer that would have afforded both you and I sense of comfort because we both understood the answer.

Yoga teacher.

Studio owner.

Photographer.

Three neat little boxes that makes small talk a neat and tidy process for everyone involved.

I had some nice little industry jargon labels I could add on top of those things that I used to bolster my ego whilst trying to portray a sense of authority in my role.

So why did I feel like a fraud and lack a sense of belonging? I wasn’t sure but in order to fix that I kept narrowing the box.

Then I birthed my daughter and everything changed.

Through the vacuum of my empty womb Remembrance came knocking and with it I began a humbling process of detangling myself from all these neat little roles I was playing so perfectly.

Suddenly I find myself so much harder to define.

In many ways but let’s take my work as the main example.

I still offer tools from yoga but I now know my life’s work lies somewhere around the intersection of love, belonging, personal development, spiritual ecology and creativity.

No more neat little boxes that always left a part of me excluded. That part of me doesn’t fit into that role so it’s locked outside the box.

So now I find myself out in the open and suddenly all of me is welcome. I settle into a new sense of belonging in this little niche that is uniquely mine.. in “plen air”.

This is what happens to us with every single role we play. The more we try to define it and narrow our definition of self, the more parts of us get excluded and locked outside the box.

Remembrance is the process where we dismantle the boxes and allow ourselves to run free in the open air.

It’s the place where you can FEEL everything, so it’s scary at first, you can feel naked and exposed...

...but you know what else happens out here? It’s the place our wild and medicinal artistry of life is set FREE!

A CONVERSATION ON NURTURE:
The first pillar of Remembrance is about weaving a foundation of love, acceptance, inquiry & intimacy throughout our lives.

It’s less doing or trying to fix ourselves and more BEING WITH ourselves just the way we are.

It’s getting to know ourselves, becoming aware of the unconscious ways we are withholding nurture from ourselves and (and others) and re-parenting ourselves from a place of truly unconditional love.

It’s tending our nervous system and trusting that love and an open heart are the most sustainable way to evolve towards a more true and beautiful life.

WHAT HAPPEN’S IN COUNCIL: WHEN WOMEN GATHER IN CIRCLE...

My six-month program of guided self-inquiry “Remembrance” is starting on the 5th June.

The program is a journey in and of itself but it also provides rich ground for practicing speaking to what is true in the words of the heart via our fortnightly women’s council.

This means showing up, being witnessed, loved and accepted for what is alive in you NOW!

Not what you want to be alive in you or what you think other people should believe is alive in you but what is truly there to be expressed; whether that is joy, sadness, anger, frustration, ambiguity, pride, grief, contentment or otherwise.

This may sound simple and it is but for many of us it is not easy and a highly unpracticed skill.

It requires us to go beyond the story and practice tuning into the emotions, the felt sense, the process and/or the revelation without anyone else’s input.

It requires us to speak and listen with an open heart. To resist the urge to offer advice and to practice attuning to our own emerging wisdom.

What this does is help us develop a sense of deep trust for not only our own process but for other people’s process.

People do not need to be saved.

YOU do not need to be saved from your process. You need to learn to TRUST it.

This can feel vulnerable at first like we are dancing naked in a room full of strangers. It feels weird like we want others to validate what we are going through or offer us advice. But every time that happens, the intelligence of our own process is restricted and it retracts.

Council is the relationship we build with process in order to learn to validate and trust ours (and ourselves). All while being witnessed, inspired & supported by other women doing the same thing.

We are like big human sized batteries, holding spi

We are like big human sized batteries, holding spirit or life force as our energy resource and made of flesh and bone.

So many things that can drain our life force or restrict our access to its flow and some of them we don’t even realise how they are affecting us.

That’s one of the things I have always loved about yoga, it helps us to understand ourselves as multi-layered beings who have the capacity to both strengthen our vehicle and become more skilful in the way we access, hold, use and direct our life force.

We also don’t necessarily need advanced yoga techniques to become more skilful in this area. There are so many simple ways we can start to build our awareness and our day to day artistry in this area.

Here are a few to get you started. Efficient use of both awareness and energy are BIG parts of the work we dive into in Remembrance.
